Book of Memories for Charles A Parmley

I met Charlie in April, 1990 during his big book study at the "Springtime of the Ozarks" AA conference. I was 6 months sober. I will forever be grateful for Charlies' simplistic, powerful, clear intepretation of the Big Book Alcoholics Annonymous. It was there that I fell in love with Alcoholics Annonymous. I will be forever grateful that god used you to help me see my problem, the solution, and the program of action to recover from alcoholism. 32 years later I am sober. I get to freely carry this message to the suffering alcoholic that Mr. Parmley so free and beautifully shared with me. RIP Charley

Just found out Charlie died . His tapes with Joe have helped thousand here on the west coast. I've talked to Charlie on the phone sveral times back in early 90's and he always had time to help. Thanks Charlie pat

I just heard about chariots passing. I am from Ireland and not only has charlie and joes BB studies saved my life and given me invaluable information about myself, my god and my recovery but I'm sure I speak for hundreds in my city dublin and around my country who actively listen and study along with them while helping their sponsees. I am greatly saddened to learn of this but satisfied he lived and shone In a way he was meant to and touched others hearts I'n a most wonderful loving way. I would never have been able to live the life i now lead if it were not for you and Joe doing what you done to lay a path we could follow Charlie....Your humour and insight into the book will stay with me forever. I just learned that Charlie P passed. I got sober in 1982 and remember when Joe & Charlie were bringing the Big Book Study to Marin County. I was unable to attend at the time. I just got the iPhone app with their Big Book Study from 1998. Wow! I should have gone 20 years ago. I have learned so much. Thank you for your life Charlie P. I hope to meet you & Joe someday.

I attended a book study in Sacramento in 1986 at the age of 22. I did not understand step one, and because Charlie shared his story I was able to see my problem with hope for a way out. It is now July, but the sad news has only today reached this home Tennessee. My heart goes out to Mr. Parmley's family and many friends. Like many, I knew Charlie through the message that he carried with such care and humor. He helped so many that he could never know us all by name. He found a dwindling spark and fanned it into a bright torch. We gladly carry that hearty flame forward in his good memory. God Bless you and Keep you, Charlie.

I will be forever grateful for the time spent talking and listening to Charlie during my many telephone calls to his house. His lovely wife Barbara would politely greet me and announce: "Charlie, it's Ronn from Chicago." He shared so much with me; sharing his time, wisdom, and experience. And I in turn would relay some of what he shared with me to other friends in Chicago. Much thanks to Ms. Barbara for sharing Charlie with so many who needed and wanted what he had to offer.

I offer my deepest condolences after reading about the passing of our friend and teacher - Charlie P. I met Charlie in June 1991 at a Big Book Seminar in New York City (St. John's University), he was there with Joe McQ. Whatever I didn't understand concerning our AA Program was clarified that weekend! I just celebrated 20 years this past February - Charlie played a big part in helping me attain that by breaking down our AA Program in simple, concise, understandable terms. I just learned of Charlies passing and I am realizing what a profound effect this man (and the 2 joe's) has had on my recovery. I am forever a better AA'er for having the fortunate opportunity to be introduced to this mans "talks" early on in my program and I thank God for that. I wish I woudlve gone to one of his talks as he was in Florida quite often in the last 6 years. Charlie RIP and I hope to c ya in the big "meeting in the sky".
