Obituary for Michelle Dianne Matlock (Powers)

Michelle Dianne Matlock (Powers)
Michelle Dianne Matlock, of Wyandotte, OK, was called home to her
Heavenly Father the evening of February 14, 2011 in Dallas, TX due to
complications following a battle with liver disease. She was 51 years
old. She was born June 5, 1959 in Marysville, OH to the late Wilson (Bill)
Powers and Betty (Powers) Sabo. She grew up in various parts of
California as her family followed her father’s Navy career. The
family relocated to Miami, OK in her teenage years. It was there that
she met her future husband Kent Matlock. Michelle and Kent went on to
have two children, Tyler and Tara. Her life was blessed further with
the births of two grandsons whom she loved immensely. Michelle
fulfilled a life long dream when she received a Bachelors Degree in
Accounting from Missouri Southern State University. For the last 16
year she was employed by the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma. Through
hard work and determination she was able to advance within the tribal
companies and become a trusted and valued employee. She leaves behind
a loving and close-knit group of co-workers whom she admired and
trusted deeply.
Michelle loved her children very much. From the day she found out she
was expecting, Michelle never made a decision that didn’t account for
her children. Due to her friendly and welcoming nature, her home
often became a disaster area as she played host to countless
sleepovers and birthday parties. She will be remembered as a second
mom to many of her son’s and daughter’s childhood friends.
Michelle was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. She possessed a strong testimony and witness that Christ was
her Savior. She was at peace and very calm during the trying weeks of
hospitalization leading up to her passing. She knew that that calm
reassurance came from a loving Heavenly Father. Michelle truly
believed that when she was in the service of her fellow man, she was
in the service of her God. As such she spent much time working with
the women, young women, and children of her Church helping them
understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She instilled the values that
she held dear in her children and grandchildren. They will eternally
be grateful to her for the decisions she made in her life that have
led, and will continue to lead her family closer to God.
Michelle is survived by her husband Kent Matlock of Wyandotte, OK.
Her son Tyler (Trudi) Matlock of Oakley, ID. Her daughter Tara
(Nick) Baron of Wyandotte, OK. Her mother Betty Sabo and step-father
Joseph Sabo of Grove, OK. Her brothers Richard Powers of Long Beach,
CA, Michael Powers of Grove, OK, Lorne Powers of Grove, OK. Her
sisters Dianne Larsen of Fountain Valley, CA, Donna Powers of
Valencia, CA. Her grandsons Jayden Baron of Wyandotte, OK, Noah
Matlock of Oakley, ID. She was preceded in death by her father Wilson
Powers.
Services will be held Friday, February 18 at 11:00 AM at the Grove
branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1104 Lee St
Grove, OK. Graveside services will be held at Olympus Cemetery in
Grove, OK.
