Obituary for Brenda O'Brien (Holmes)

Brenda Holmes Manes O’Brien, age 71, longtime resident of Grove and Texas native joined the other angels on Friday February 17, in Grove, Oklahoma. Brenda was the daughter of Joe Vance Holmes and Elise Marie (Strong) Robertson and was born March 5, 1940 in Cooper, Texas.
Ms. O’Brien grew up in Cooper, TX, where she was an all-state basketball player, capturing the Texas State Title in 1958. Turning down a college scholarship offer, she chose to remain in Cooper and married Herbert (Doc) Manes who preceded her in death in 1979. They had three daughters: Kimberly, Kellye, and Kristi.
She married Pat (Buck) O’Brien in 1978 and they later relocated to Grove, OK. Mr. O’Brien preceded her in death in 2004.
A member of the Delaware Baptist Church in Grove, her true love was her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, watching Texas football, along with her other shows. She loved going to the beach and the water. She never forgot her deep roots in Texas and loved the great state with all her heart.
Preceded in death by her father, Joe Vance Holmes in 1974 and is survived by her mother, Elise Robertson, a brother, Jerry Holmes of Cooper, TX, and her three daughters: Kim Taylor and husband Paul of Independence, KY; Kellye Speer and husband David of Corpus Christi, TX; and Kristi Morrow and husband Kevin of Grove.
Her grandchildren include Jaron Rainey and wife Karla of Denton, TX; Aaron Manes and wife Veronica of Corpus Christi, TX; Jason Rainey and wife Lacey of McKinney, TX; David Speer of Corpus Christi, TX; Timothy Rainey of Honey Grove, TX; Jessica Morrow of Kansas City, MO; Dakota Morrow of Pryor, OK and Boston Morrow of Grove.
Great grandchildren include Ryan, Cannon and Parker Rainey; Emma Rainey; Madison and Ava Manes; and Layla Lewis.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Delaware Baptist Church on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
The Service in Texas will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2PM at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel. Ms. O’Brien’s final resting place will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, near her beloved father, in her hometown of Cooper, Texas, the state she so loved. Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove, OK and Delta Funeral Home in Cooper, TX.
