Thanks, Charlie, for your continuing efforts to steer my husband and I to AA and Alanon. Sometimes we are pretty hard headed but finally those efforts have paid off! We appreciate your influence in teaching us to learn to really live life again. And thanks, Barbara, for that big smile and welcoming hug each time we would meet. You have both meant so much to so many people over the years. Your love and support for all those who have a drinking problem will never be forgotten.

I was fortunate enough to meet and see Charlie three times early in my recover in 1991 1992 and 1993. I saw him with both Joes and he and both Joes changed the course of my life in ways you will never know. I am eternally grateful to Charlie and the Joes for my recovery . I pray that God bless and console you and your loved ones in this time, and I know in my heart that he is in heaven. I only hope that I may be half the example of God's love and service as Charlie was. He will be missed. May God Bless and keep you.

I first heard Joe, Joe, and Charlie in 1991 at 4 months of sobriety. What a gift. I was struggling with my 4th step and hearing them that weekend in Pasadena simplified everything for me. I can't thank Charlie enough for his contribution to my recovery. I have since been to many other BB Comes Alive weekends with friends and sponsees and watched the light come on for them as well! How fortunate that it will continue on via tapes and CD's. I have many favorite stories that Charlie has shared at the BB weekends but my all time favorite has to be the Chunnel story. It not only touched our hearts but it obviously meant so much to him that he got all choked up when he told it. I believe what you said is true. We are the luckiest people in the world. Thanks so much for sharing what you found with us, Charlie. "Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the fellowship of the Spirit and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny. May God bless you and keep you-- until then"

Thank you thank you thank you Joe and Charlie. Have Joe and Charlie closed meetings every week with my beloved Sponsor at her house with other likeminded women in Northwest, CT. Came into the rooms and stayed at age 33, just like my Sponsor. You guys (and gals) all saved my life -- I was "raised" in AA by Old Timers. Have nine years sobriety and a sponsor with 22 years. Not a retread. I give the same messages to my sponsees. Thank you and God Bless you for your message and being messengers. Blessings on your Good Souls in Heaven. I am so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I used his and Joe's BB Study by myself and loved it. And then when a sponsee was having a tough time accepting her powerlessness, I introduced the tapes to her. We came to truly look forward to our Thursday nights when we'd sit in my dining room listening to those two guys banter and teach. Charlie was wonderful. My thoughts are with you all.

As you know better than anyone, Charlie was, and will continue to be, so very dear to those of us fortunate and blessed to have found "the way out." After years of sobriety and hearing Charlie (and Joe) on tapes, I found myself in an AA meeting with him in a small town in either NW Arkansas or NE Oklahoma in 2003. He was the same wonderful man and character that I had imagined while listening to him carrying the message. He will not be forgotten.

I did my first 4th step after listening to Charlie' tapes, 22 years ago. This was a major turning point in my early sobriety. The step work that resulted from that which Charlie so wonderfully presented have kept me sober for over 23 years now. Thanks to God, AA and of course Charlies great 12th Step work. My condolences, a fine man will be missed and remembered by many, always.

I have been chairing a Joe and Charlie Big Book study for 5 1/2 years. When I first started we were using old cassette tapes that would start dragging halfway through the meeting. I ordered a set of CDs to be delivered to my home. My wife had gone out of town and I was really struggling with the obsession to drink. I was less than a year sober and this was the only really bad I've had. I wasn't expecting the CDs to come for at least 1 or 2 weeks but when the mail ran there they were! I spent the rest of the day listening to Joe and Charlie and my obsession was gone. I knew then and I know now that this was not a coincedence. Charlie will live in our hearts forever and I thank God for having Known him through his teachings. Sincerely, Tom H. Warner Robins, Ga.

I met Charlie early in my sobriety, being privileged to pick him up at the airport and drive him to our local annual conference where he spoke. Such a warm, endearing man I remember. He was so encouraging to me and his and Joe's Big Book Study Tapes have been a valuable resource in my now 20+ years of recovery. Thank you to his family for all the times he was away from you helping so very many people.

Our sponsors took us (my husband and myself) through the steps with Joe and Charlie recordings. It was a thorough and cleansing journey with humor and humility sprinkled all throughout. I always wanted to meet them in person, but never did. However, I feel as though I've known them all of my life. I pray the family will find much consolation from all of the love being shown from all of the people he and his partners (both Joes) helped. Love and gratitude ---- Treasa and Mike McW

It's so sad to think the last of the great Parmley brothers has passed on. I remember going to one of Charlie and Joe's Big Book courses while he was in San Diego. I very quietly came in late and sat down in the back. Charlie picked me out of the crowd and yelled, "Well, there's my niece!" I could always connect with my Uncle Charlie and he listened to me like I was the only one in the room. I remember countless trips to the farm in Maysville, AR and he loved to intoduce me to all the animals. I even rode a pig. Thank you Charlie and Barbara for the great support you gave me when my Dad was dying. Barbara, Charlotte and family, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Charlie's message with Joe inspired so many of us on this path to Recovery. Both Lori and I are so indebted to the integrity of the "message" that Charlie was a part of. I remember the last time Charlie was in Atlanta GA to do a 3 day workshop and He stopped by the Joe and Charlie style bookstudy I have been so blessed to participate in facilitating for 5 years now. My bookstudy partner and I looked at each other after Charlie sat down in the back of the room. It's kinda like singing "Satisfaction" from the Stones and you look up and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are in the audience. I remember how honored and humbled I felt afterwards and he pat my shoulder and said "keep up the good work Christian". I will never be able to repay the gift that Charlie was responsible in sharing with the world of recovery. Thank you Charlie !!! Thank you for carrying the torch of God into the dark world of the Alcoholic. I love You and I look forward to seeing you again at the Big Meeting. Love Lori & Christian Proctor

Charlie lit so many candles for the lives of so many people that I know. He lit the light that keeps on burning. His knowledge, wit, and down to earth presentation of the music of Alcoholics Anonymous will always play on my fiddle. I have heard it told that death of someone such as Charlie is like a ship leaving port on a dark dreary night and the crowd says, as it leaves its mooring, "there he goes". Somewhere on the other side of the world (like Heaven) there is another crowd, waiting in the sunlight on a beautiful white beach and they see Charlie's ship inching over the horizon. The people on the beach start screaming and yelling and jumping up and down with joy, saying, "Here He Comes"..Here Comes Charlie!! God Bless You!

Words fail me in the expression of my condolences and my gratitude....they are present in my heart - i send them to you, hart to heart. The torch passed on is great -may each life that has been touched - changed - and lifted pass on what was so freely given to us in celebration and honor of his life. While Charlie's voice will not be heard with the ears on our heads, nor his face seen by the eyes in our sockets, it will ring loud and clear in each heart if we listen. Thank you God for sending us Charlie -heart to heart.

Barbara, Although we never met, you always had such a warm welcome when I would call to speak with Charlie, thank you. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family as well as the hundreds of thousands whose lives were touched and changed by your loving husband. The last time we spoke was the morning of March 26th this year when we were presenting The Big Book Comes Alive in Phoenix, Az., I asked Charie for guidance that day and he did as he always did.....very gently saying..."Adjust Larry, stick to the black part on the pages and don't try to re write the book and you'll be just fine. Tell everyone in Phoenix I said hello and that I love em" Charlie will be missed, he was my mentor and friend. Godspeed Charlie, say hello to Joe for me. Larry Scott, Marietta, Georgia

Barbara, I am so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. It was a Godsend, meeting you both last summer (friend of Jay Taylor). Although listening to Charlie's tapes over the years saved my life, I have never been so inspired as I was in hearing him speak to me personally. He has touched so many lives over the years, it will be impossible to think of him as gone. God sure had some special tasks in mind for Charlie. He will be sorely missed for many years to come. I will keep you in my heart and prayers. I too know the pain of losing a wonderful husband and friend. My heart goes out to you. May you find strength, courage and peace through your own program and circle of support. Sincerely, Sue Rosinski Steelville, Missouri

Although I never knew him personally, I am truly saddened for all of us in Alcoholics Anonymous for loosing such a respected and valued member. It is with deep sympathy that my heart goes out to all who loved him so much. I have lost a lot of family over the years so I kind of know what you must be going through right now. However, always remember the great things he brought to your lives realizing that he is now home with God!

Charlie, my words cannot express my gratitude for you and Joe McQ. I wouldn't be alive let alone sober and alive living the good life that I live today had God not directed me to you and allowed me to listen to the two of you explain the Big Book to me. I was six months sober, on my 2nd attempt at sobriety and I was at the jumping off place. Sobriety was killing me. While I was contemplating driving my truck into the side of a train to end the pain -- on my last phone call to an AA for help -- I ended up in a Serenity Book Store, in Encino, CA., and found a set of Big Book Study tapes and I bought them. I noticed on the cover it said something about an AA Plan of Recovery in the Big Book. I didn't know there was a program of recovery in AA. I had been told just don't drink and go to meetings and make it up as you go. I postponed driving into the train long enough to listen to all six tapes. Had what I heard not worked, it was over for me. I took the 12 Steps, reading the Big Book and listening to the tapes, and had a Spiritual Awakening that has allowed me to recover. That was in 1987. My sobriety date is Nov. 14th. 1986. And, I haven't had a drink for the last 8,925 days in a row. Thank you for the times you've taken my calls and for allowing me to visit with you in your home, and to spend some time with you. I appreciate you and appreciate all the ways that you've helped me -- to achieve and maintain my sobriety. God bless you and your wife. Dallas Bowman

Barbara and family~ Since 1991, my husband and I attended all but one of the Charlie and Joe BB Comes Alive in Sacramento, CA before they ended. We grew up listening to Charlie, Joe and Willy B at the Seminars and on tape. The highlight of the 4 days in Sacramento was spending time talking to Charlie. He asked us to promise to carry on what he so believed in.....and we have and always will. Charlie will live on forever. He was and will continue to be our lifetime mentor. His photo (and we don't have that many up) is displayed along with our family member photos because he was that important to us. Our hearts go out to you Barbara and your extended family.
