Obituary for Mary Lois Osten (Cowan)

Luginbuel Funeral Home Vinita, 918-256-5555…..Mary Lois Osten, age 91 years passed away at her home near Vinita on Friday, October 5, 2018 surrounded by her family. Lois was born in a farm house near Bushyhead on June 19, 1927 to Thomas and Flora Mae Cowan who preceded her in death along with her husband Jesse Louis Osten, sister Lula Mae Cowan and brother Chester Cowan.
Lois married Jesse Louis Osten while he was home on leave from the US Army-Air Corp on July 24, 1944. She lived with her parents until Jesse returned from being stationed in North Africa and Italy during WWII.
Jesse and Lois farmed in the Bushyhead area before purchasing a farm in the Big Cabin area in 1953. Lois loved and supported Jesse on the farm. She was an excellent cook who loved to make pecan brittle, cookies, bread and cinnamon rolls. She worked outside the home in the Pryor Sewing Factory for a brief time before working as a cook at the White Oak School Cafeteria while her two boys were in school. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting, ceramics, crocheting, embroidering and gave away many pieces of her handmade heirlooms.
Mary Lois Osten is survived by sons: Dwight Osten and wife Becky of Vinita, Darrell Osten and wife Phyllis of Foyil; There are 5 grandchildren; Chad Osten and wife Kirstie of Austin, TX, Jennifer Trull and husband David of Montgomery, TX, Alicia Izett and husband David of Broken Arrow, Katrina Summerlin and husband Junior of Foyil, Michael Osten and wife Barbora of Owasso. There are 9 great grandchildren; Devin and Alec Izett of Broken Arrow, Jordan Kennedy and husband Haydon of Owasso, Jesse Summerlin of Foyil, Misha, Julia, and Anna Osten of Owasso, Henry and Hannah Osten of Austin, Tx, and 1 great great grandson Milo Kennedy of Owasso.
Funeral services For Mary Lois Osten will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 8, 2018 at Luginbuel Funeral Home chapel in Vinita, Ok with Pastor Mike Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery. On-line condolences may be submitted to www.honoringmemories.com.
