Obituary for Melvin Emmett Rector

Melvin E. Rector, age 82 and resident of Dewey, Oklahoma, passed away on August 18, 2018 at his home.

Melvin Emmett Rector was born on July 15, 1936 in Cattalee, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Rector and Laura (Fultz) Rector. He had lived almost his whole life in this area of Northeast Oklahoma. After graduation from high school, Melvin enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1955. At the time of his Honorable Discharge in 1959, his ranking was Airman First Class.

On September 3, 1965, Melvin and Marylin Sue Hanna were united in marriage and they continued their home in the Dewey area. Melvin was employed with Reda Pump (now Schlumberger) in Bartlesville for many years. At the time of his retirement, he was an electrician, machine maintenance.

Melvin was of the Methodist religion and he was very proud to be of Cherokee descent. He was a member of the Cherokee Association and DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was “Mr. Fix It” and was a “tinkerer”. He enjoyed reading, being outside and being with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marylin of the family home; children, Christina Dyan Goad and Stony of Dewey, and James Kenneth Rector of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Tristen Goad and Samantha Goad.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.

Come and go visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12 Noon-8:00 PM, and Thursday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Dewey City Cemetery. Pastor Sherman Jaquess of the Matoaka Baptist Church will be the officiant. Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
