June 24, 1945 – August 8, 2018
It’s like a dream, you’ve gone from me
A man with hands so strong and meek
I close my eyes to see your face
Your big blue eyes and smile like lace
Your laughter carries throughout our home
When my feet were little, and liked to roam
Your music plays and as it slows
You let me dance atop your toes
Your nursing skills heal a mild scratch
And a broken heart receives a patch
Your aging wisdom is heard with zeal
To make me sturdy and strong as steel
Your goofy antics keep life fun
We squeal with delight, while we run
Your love for me is most special
Your love for others is like a vessel
Your stern admonishments disappear
When your sweet words of care bring me cheer
Your imperfections make you real
With the faults of me being no big deal
You bring me joy each day of life
Even when there seems to be a little strife
I want this dream to stay so vivid
So, when I wake I won’t be livid
I know your pain is now long gone
Because your home is a brand new dawn.
The beauty you see must be a sight
And Grandma is there to hold you tight
You’re walking with Jesus, hand in hand
Like you did with me when you were on this land
I’ll love your grandkids, like you did me
Your name is Daddy, and will always be
God’s plan for you is now complete
I’m so very thankful He brought you peace
I may be sad, and my heart will ache
But, God provides a comforter, that will not shake
Jesus lives in me, and with His hope
I know He will help me be able to cope
I love you Daddy, for you are so dear
Your job is done, and well done here
Rest in Peace Daddy
