Frances June Cody, age 86, of Nowata, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
June Cody was born on July 19, 1931 in Nowata, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Andy Van Hensley and Mattie Oweda (Graves) Hensley. She grew up in Nowata, Oklahoma on her Family’s homestead surrounded by numerous close family members. She graduated from Nowata High School, and went on to later marry and have her son Charles.

After graduating she went to work for Mr. Pendleton’s Law office. She later on moved to Kansas and began working as the executive secretary for Senator Pearson. She continued to work with him through his career and joined him in Washington, D.C.. While in DC she had opportunity to work for multiple U.S. Senators. She made many lifelong friends, and received numerous awards and accolades during her time in DC.
June later decided to return to Kansas to be near her son and family. She continued to work as an executive secretary in a new position with the USDA. June remained with the USDA until her retirement.
After retiring June moved back to Nowata, to be near her mother and family. June enjoyed sewing, collecting oriental artifacts and spending time with the her family and friends. She continued to reside in Nowata until her passing

Survivors include a Niece whom she considered a Daughter, Ouida Brady and wife Lynez Brady of the home, daughter-in-law; Elaine Cody of Olathe, KS, One granddaughter; Elizabeth Raffety and husband Kyle of Olathe, KS. Great Nephew, Charlie Brady, whom she considered a grandson, and his wife Ku of Tulsa, OK, Four Great Grandchildren. One Nephew; Michael Hensley of Glenpool, Ok, Two Nieces; Carrie Stacy and husband Curtis of Nowata, Ok, and Shari Love and husband Charlie of Bartlesville, OK, And a great niece, Krystal Owens of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and many beloved nieces and nephews and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Andy Van Hensley and Mattie Oweda (Graves) Hensley, Her brother Howard Hensley, and sister Helen Stroud. As well as her former husband, David Cody and Her son Charles “Chuck” Cody.

June will be available for viewing at Benjamin Funeral home prior to the services. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata, Oklahoma. Rev. Lynez Brady will be the officiant. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
