Luginbuel Funeral Home Vinita, 918-256-5555……. Edith Elizabeth (Martin) Hicks, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones. Known as “Mom”, “Granny” or “Auntie” to her family. Edith was above all else, a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother, and Sister. She was also a devout Christian and a friend to many.
Edith was born on December 15, 1939 to her parents Wilbur and Frances Martin. Edith moved with her family to Vinita from Grand River at a very young age. She attended Attucks school until her senior year graduating from Vinita High School. She married Wilford Hicks in 1965, he preceded her in death. She was an active member of Serenity Baptist Church until her health started to fail.
She started working at an early age at Host International, Glasshouse, and Howard Johnson all under the management of Annabelle Southern. After her tenure there she worked for Northeast Electric Coop. She retired after many years of service there.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Janet Martin, son; Wayne Hicks; both of Vinita. Four brothers; Ronnie Martin; Vinita, Royce T. Martin; Claremore, Wade (Portia) Martin; Paradise City, CA, Wilbur J. (Michele) Martin; San Diego, CA. Four sisters; Dollie (Roger) Tyler, Arlene (Charles) Kirkendoll, Tillie Trent, all of Vinita, and Jessie Martin of Tulsa.
Grandchildren; Marcus, Travis, Zekie, (Kim Ramsey) Hicks, Amaia (Leslie Brown) Hicks, Nikiana Hicks, Cami Hicks & Khary (Morgan Scott) Andrews.
Great Grandchildren; Lynnlei Martin, Darian, Donovan, Jordan Ramsey Sumaia Jones, Zaizion Hicks & Kadyn Blakley. Edith also leaves a special family friend, Jackie London of Vinita and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edith is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, 1 granddaughter, 1 step great granddaughter and 1 great niece.
Family and friends are invited to stop and pay your respects from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm, Thursday and Friday, October 19th & 20th, 2017 at Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Rober Ramsey, Jr. officiating. Edith will be laid to rest next to her husband in Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, Oklahoma. Online condolences can be made by viewing Edith’s Book of Memories at www.honoringmemories.com.
