Payton Diane Taylor, 16 year old Vinita high school student, was surrounded by her family when she went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on June 12, 2001 in Claremore, to Jerry and Leslie (Gordon) Taylor. Payton was very involved in the Vinita FFA, and served as an officer each year, including Jr. President and Sr. Treasurer. She was very involved in the farmers market, waterfowl production, vegetable production and poultry production. Payton had won many awards for her work including, SAE Leaders award, Oklahoma State Poultry Federation Reserve Champion, FFA Creed Speech Contest Winner, Tulsa State Fair Waterfowl Champion and Agriculture State Science Champion, Reserve National Waterfowl Show Champion and Vegetable Growing Award. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita and was active in the Vinita Alive Church. Payton made the most of everything she was involved in. Payton also liked to cook, bake, canning, sewing, crafts, garden, shopping, traveling, dance, fish and hunt. A very giving precious, big hearted little girl, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family includes: her parents, Jerry and Leslie Taylor: her brother, Luke Taylor all of Vinita; her grandparents, Hugh and Treva Gordon of Bluejacket, Jerry and Aliene Taylor of Ketchum; great-grandmothers, Geraldine Taylor of Bluejacket, Ovella Gordon of Yukon, OK and Donna Mann of Vinita; aunts and uncles, Tracy and Rick Mendez of Bluejacket, Hughie and Abbie Gordon of Glennpool, Lisa and Mark Evans of Ketchum, Lori Monroe of Ketchum; numerous great-aunts and uncles and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her great-grandfathers, Russell Gordon, Jim Mann and Wayne Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Craig County Community Center.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Craig County Community Center with Pastor Robert Sanders, Pastor Skip McClain and Pastor Steve Holland officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Memorial donations can be made to the Payton Taylor Scholarship Fund at the Oklahoma State Bank, P.O. Box 278, Vinita, Oklahoma 74301.
